MERIKAS BEACH HOUSE

Patmos, 2024

A main house and two guesthouses stand within the beach bay of Merikas. In harmony with the landscape, they follow the clean, spare aesthetic of Patmos. Whitewashed lime walls remain largely unadorned, while chestnut beams from Mount Athos and traditional wooden shutters bring warmth and texture. The living room is anchored by a wall to wall built sofa that runs the length of the space, while in the master bedroom a stone bathtub and custom bed are set within niches, their forms framed by the architecture.

Locally crafted daybeds with handmade cotton mattresses, bespoke oak chairs, and Patmian stone counters continue a dialogue between local tradition and restraint. Hand-embroidered textiles, natural woods, and aged finishes in the bespoke mirrors, fittings, and lighting add depth to the newly built spaces.

Outdoors, an old grinding stone was merged with Dionysos marble to form a bistro table, paired with wooden folding chairs from Rhodes. Across house and landscape, traditional Greek craftsmanship and contemporary design converge to honor both the serenity of the bay and the continuity of local architecture.
