MOUKI MOU

Athens, 2023

The Athens outpost of Mouki Mou, a boutique on London’s Chiltern Street, is home to a collection of under-the-radar clothes, jewellery and objects sourced from around the world by its owner, Maria Lemos.

Located in a 1970s building in Plaka, the light and modern space emphasises the period features: the restored terrazzo floor unifies the rooms, while the use of utilitarian materials, such as brushed aluminium and exposed MDF, reflects the time it was built. For subtle texture, walls are painted in natural limewash with a hint of loulaki blue and desert grey. Vintage Greek designs from the 1960s and ’70s hark back to the building’s origins: a needlepoint rug by Pronia, a pair of Philolaos Tloupas chairs, ceramic lace pieces by Eleni Vernardaki, who also designed a very special table for the shop.
