MERIKAS HOUSE
Patmos, 2016
A rare seafront property on Patmos, this 19th century residence overlooks Merikas bay. Purposeful but inconspicuous, the restoration and interior design honour the architectural heritage and natural beauty of this hidden settlement.
Master craftsmen from Patmos, who have honed their expertise over generations, produced the bespoke cabinets, woven benches, built-in sofas and marble tables. Natural materials were sourced locally or salvaged: stone floors, a steel and bamboo pergola, marble counters and sinks. Vintage Greek fabrics and embroideries are transformed into decorative pillows for the carved day beds and sofas. Traditional elements are overlaid with 20th century European antiques in a minimal, quiet space. A soft palette of blues and greys complements the natural hues of the peaceful seaside setting.
