Antiparos, 2020

This hillside summer house on the island of Antiparos, designed by Katerina Tsigarida Architects, juxtaposes modernism with Cycladic vernacular architecture. The design is based on the desire to create the feeling of a small community; a village within a private estate.

The interior design echoes the strong sense of proportion and symmetry. Custom-built shelves, sofas, beds and consoles with elongated silhouettes appear to extend the surface area. Locally produced furniture in oak, Greek marble, and steel can be easily re-configured for different purposes. A selection of decorative antiques, such as a rare wrought iron candelabra, Ottoman trays, copper pots, and Greek engravings, subtly adds contextual depth. The sparsely decorated spaces underline the understated simplicity and discreet freedom of Greek island life.
